Weekend Roundup

I went to Folsom for a good old fashion wake Saturday. The man being honored, Mark was a good friend of my  "riding buds". I had only met him once but was honored to be invited to come celebrate his short time on this rock we all live on.
My buddy the Lou Foo came over to ride up to Folsom with me. His bike was down so I loaned him my Shovel to ride, its first real voyage. I took the pan and we where off straight through the fog Sacramento bound. The bikes ran good all the way up and most of the way home. My pan started missing and loosing power Lou Foo got ahead of me and we got separated and him with a dead cell phone we never hooked up. He finally gave up on me an headed for my house I called dad and had him come up in the truck to get me. We both made it back to my house about ten minuets apart.
Bikes are both back in the garage and I will give the pan a good looking over after Christmas. On the good side the only problem the Shovel had was Lou running out of gas ( after we got separated ) and not knowing there was a reserve on the tank. He pushed it a mile to the gas station.

Back home

Harley tank shift levers

I got this neat picture of different shift arms off of the Mat Olsen blog (all kinds of cool stuff going on over there ). left to right 1936 knucklehead only. 1937 to 1946, 1947 to some time in the fifties, and a late one that I have no idea when hd started to use it. The knob is at a crazy angle and it is very homely.

Tank work

Got the tank tabs the other day. I don't know why I dread cutting off the old ones and putting on the new ones, oh yeah its a pain in the ass. but it needs to get done so I can prep them for paint. Found a couple of holes under all of the funky old repair welds. I fired up the torch and started chasing them till I got tired of it. I called dad in to show me how it's really done. we got one patched up tonight. I'll do the other on later.

My laptop's down

Got a bug on my main venting machine so all I can do for a while is ride, work and play. I'll see you on the web soon but for now it'll have to be on the road. I here Max over at 4Q is thinking of putting on his 69 mile ride this weekend ( weather permitting ). Check his blog for details, Ill be there if it's going on. The only Question is Pan or Shovel?
For now here are so pictures off of my wife's computer, 2006 Washington city CA camp out.

I had to ride the pit bike, at least once.

Me with my daughter. this was her second trip here.
The first one she was only two weeks old.

the fire wood was stacked around the fire to keep it dry.

Man I liked this scoot, It was the only vehicle I ever bought new.
Now it's in a scrap yard in AZ. Think twice before loaning out your bike.

This was the only warm sunny day of the trip that year, it rained
like crazy the rest of the time. You just cant tell but if you where there you cant forget.

Lined my kid's lid

Practice, practice, practice. I took my daughter's helmet apart tonight and relined it. Tried my hand at dimond stitching this one. The more I do the better I get right? We'll see.

49 Mile Ride

Went withe my dad and his friend to San Francisco for the annual 49 Mile ride today. We left here at 7am, it was clear and crisp. All three Pans ran great all day long. There was a bunch of old iron there. My mom took her camera so I left mine at home ( check out her Obsolete Iron blog for her shots ). I did take two pictures with my phone.

Played seamstress tonight

Took the wife's sewing machine out to the garage and made some tool bags. I've been wanting to make some for a while and found the fabric while I was getting the material for my helmet.

Every bad ass biker needs this setup in their shop...
